Nandak Ganjen Dance is a new type of dance created by Entong Sukirman and Atien Kisam. Nandak means to dance, Ganjen means flirtatious. This dance is taken from the basic movements of the Mask dance and Cokek. It can be seen from the selection of music accompaniment.
The dance portrays young Betawi women growing up and hanging out with their friends. They are agile, sassy, flirtatious, festive, happy, yet still adhere to the tradition of politeness. The dance affirms that human’s life cycle, especially among Betawi women is quite dynamics, both within themselves and outside. Betawi women are zealous and enthusiastic of their roles in the community.
