Gambus Orchestra was formerly known as the rhythm of the desert. In the 1940s, Gambus Orchestra became a favorite spectacle. For Betawi people, wedding party or circumcision will not be complete without the presence of Gambus Orchestra.
Gambus Orchestra already existed in Betawi in the early 19th century. At that time many immigrants from Hadramaut (South Yemen) and Gujarat came to Betawi and brought this music art.
